Beef, it’s what’s for dinner.

No, really, this dish features steak.

Also, that’s the website where I found this recipe.

I stumbled upon this a while ago when looking for ways to cook steak that didn’t involve grilling or fajitas.

This is super simple to make, takes just a few ingredients, and you can fancy it up with additions like siracha, egg, mushroom, bean sprouts, etc.

If you like steak and you like ramen, you’ll love this.

Let’s get into it.

Steak Ramen

Time commitment:

Prep - 15 minutes

Cooking time - 20-30 minutes

Cooling time - 5-10 minutes

Ready in as little as 40 minutes!

Equipment list:

  • Knife and cutting board

  • Cast iron skillet or other frying pan large enough to hold 4 cups water

  • Spatula or tongs (that’s safe for your pan and won’t scratch it!)

  • Teaspoon

  • Tablespoon

  • 1/2 cup (or use 1/2 of 1 cup)

  • 2-4 cup measuring cup (or just use what you have to get 4 cups!)

  • Stovetop

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound beef top sirloin steak, boneless, cut into strips (or cook a whole steak and cut it after)

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 2 packages (3 oz each) beef ramen noodles

  • 2 teaspoons oil, divided

  • 4 cups water

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion

  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic (freshly minced or pre-minced, or use 1 teaspoon powder)

  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 teaspoon powder)

  • 1 tablespoon miso paste or a few shakes of soy sauce (optional but adds flavor)

  • Toppings: boiled egg, shredded carrots, bean sprouts, sugar snap peas, mushrooms, green onion, baby spinach

  • Garnishes: cilantro or basil, hot chili sauce, pickled ginger, sesame seeds, lime

Cooking steps:

  1. Gather all your equipment and ingredients. Season steak strips or full steak with 1/2 teaspoon seasoning from 1 beef ramen packet, 1 teaspoon pepper, and salt to taste. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.

    • TIP: You’ll use just 1 packet of ramen seasoning in this recipe if you use miso paste. Save the other to make beef broth!

  2. While the meat rests, chop your onion, garlic, and ginger (if using fresh).

  3. Preheat your skillet to medium heat and throw 1 teaspoon cooking oil in it. Add the steak, cooking until it’s done to your liking.

    • TIP: Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan if you choose to cook the steak in strips. Use the remaining 1 teaspoon oil if cooking this way. Otherwise use 1 teaspoon or 2 to cook full steak, whatever you prefer.

  4. When the steak is done, remove from pan and set aside. Add to the same pan 4 cups water, 1/2 cup onion, 2 tablespoons minced garlic or 1 teaspoon powder, 1 tablespoon grated ginger or 1/2 teaspoon powder, and remaining seasoning from open packet of ramen.

    • TIP: Use both seasoning packets if NOT using miso paste!

  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 2 minutes.

  6. Add the 2 packs of noodles, bringing to a boil.

  7. Cook until the noodles are done to your liking - a little al dente or super soft. This takes just a few minutes.

  8. Add the steak and if using, stir in the miso or soy sauce and additional toppings.

  9. Serve warm by itself or with egg rolls or another side.
